Shan Wang
Coach & Tech

Shan is an artist and curator who pursues joy, love, and community through clay. Since their first pottery class, Shan has been creating sculptural and functional ceramics for 10 years. They exhibit their work and curate group exhibitions nationally. Their most recent exhibitions include: GROWTH (2022, Savannah, GA), Painting Plain (2023 Leavenworth, WA), and Waymaking (2024 Wenatchee, WA).
Shan believes that ceramics hold history. Each firing immortalizes fingerprints, touch, and movement. Shan chooses to mold their own history through throwing, hand-building, and slip casting. They use processes that are rhythmic and time consuming to create both functional and sculptural ceramics. Be it carving patterns, building a large piece bit by bit, or applying layer upon layer of glaze to create colorful surfaces, Shan finds peace and time for reflection through slowing down. Their functional work connects themselves with community through touch and shared moments: molding and forming memories that are attached to each vessel. Each piece is another answer to the question, “What brings me joy and how can I share this joy with others?”Today, Shan finds community through clay in Seattle, WA where they continue to work, live, and play.
